Where can you ride an e-bike in Kitchener-Waterloo?
Pedal-assist e-bikes can ride GRT's ION trains and ION buses, but not regular GRT buses, and GO trains from Kitchener take certified e-bikes up to 55 kg, but not on weekday rush-hour trains in the peak direction. The City of Waterloo's by-laws bar motor-assisted devices from multi-use trails, sidewalks and park paths, exempting only e-scooters and mobility devices, and the Region warns that shared e-bikes may lose their assist on trails. Kitchener has published no e-bike rule for trails like the Iron Horse Trail, beyond saying cars, mopeds and other motorized vehicles should not use them.
